Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation

To refresh the skills and techniques required to skipper safely on significant offshore passages by day and night including passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, navigation, general seamanship incl. yacht handling under sail and power, adverse weather and emergencies.

Pre-course experience for RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Examination
Preparation only - 50 days sea time - 5 days as skipper, 2,500 miles in tidal waters, 5 Qualifying Passages over 60nm including two overnight and two as Skipper.

Definition of Qualifying Passage

Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Theory knowledge essential plus VHF Radio Operating License & First Aid Certificates. 

International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea - A throughly detailed knowledge is required for the examination and there is insufficient time available on the course to refresh the subject fully. Students are reminded that RYA booklet G2 contains this information which must be understood and used to a high standard throughout the course and the subsequent examination.

Ability after course
Confidently skipper offshore passages by day or night and have experience to manage adverse weather conditions.
